Helwe Fireproof Comprehensive Firestopping Solution – An International Standard Solution for Safeguarding Building Fire Safety
As international fire protection experts, we deeply understand the critical significance of building firestopping in ensuring the safety of lives and properties. Helwe Fireproof Technology, in line with international authoritative standards such as UL (Underwriters Laboratories) and FM (Factory Mutual), has developed a comprehensive firestopping solution for key parts of buildings, including cable ducts, cable trays, cable shafts, control cabinets/panels, structural joints, and through-wall openings. This solution builds a solid fire safety barrier for buildings.
I. Solution Design Basis and Standards
Strictly following international specifications such as UL 2079 (Standard for Firestop Testing of Cable Penetrations), UL 1709 (Rapid Rise Fire Test Standard), and FM Approval 5500 (Firestop System Certification Standard), we ensure that the solution achieves advanced international performance in preventing flame spread, heat insulation, and smoke separation. It is suitable for the fire resistance grade requirements of various buildings, helps projects comply with regulations, and avoids legal risks.
II. Firestopping Solutions for Key Parts
(1) Cable Ducts (Cable duct fire protection - B)
A combination system of Helwe fireproof putty and fireproof boards is used. The fireproof putty fills the gaps in the ducts, with good plasticity and fire-resistant sealing performance. The fireproof boards cover the openings of the ducts, forming a strong heat insulation layer. Tested in accordance with UL 2079 standards, this system can effectively delay the spread of flames, buy crucial time for personnel evacuation and fire-fighting operations in case of a fire, and reduce heat transfer to protect the building structures around the ducts.
(2) Cable Trays (Cable tray seal - K)
Helwe flame-retardant sealant and special cable tray firestopping modules are adopted. The sealant fills the joints and penetration parts of the cable trays, and the modules cover the openings of the cable trays, forming a continuous fire barrier. Meeting the requirements of FM Approval 5500, it can prevent flames, high temperatures, and toxic smoke from spreading through the cable trays, reduce the threat of smoke to personnel evacuation routes, and ensure evacuation safety.
(3) Cable Shafts (Cable shaft fire protection - C)
A shaft firestopping system is constructed using Helwe fireproof boards and fireproof sealants. The fireproof boards separate the shaft space, and the sealants fill the gaps between the boards and between the shafts and the building structures. With reference to the rapid temperature rise simulation test of UL 1709, it can effectively delay the vertical spread of fire along the shafts, protect the vertical structural safety of the building, and avoid the rapid expansion of the fire due to the shaft acting as a "chimney effect" channel.
(4) Control Cabinets/Panels (Control cabinet fire protection - A)
Customized Helwe firestopping components for cabinets are used, including fireproof gaskets and flame-retardant sealants. The gaskets are embedded in the gaps of the cabinet doors, and the sealants fill the cable entry holes and joints of the cabinets, forming a sealed fireproof space. Passing the fire protection tests for electrical equipment related to UL, it can prevent flames from entering the interior of the control cabinets, protect electrical equipment, and reduce the risks of fire expansion and electrical failures caused by equipment combustion.
(5) Structural Joints (Structural joint seal - I)
A coordinated solution of Helwe elastic fireproof sealant and fireproof filling strips is adopted. The sealant adapts to the deformation of the joints and maintains long-term fire-resistant sealing performance. The filling strips enhance the heat insulation and smoke separation performance of the joints. Meeting the fire protection requirements for structural joints in FM certification, it can reduce heat transfer through the joints, protect key load-bearing parts such as steel structures and concrete components of the building, and prevent structural instability and collapse due to high temperatures.
(6) Through-wall Openings (Horizontal openings fire protection - E, Vertical openings fire protection - G)
For horizontal and vertical through-wall openings, a combination of Helwe fireproof boards, fireproof putty, and sealants is used for sealing. The fireproof boards serve as the basic heat insulation layer, the fireproof putty fills the pores, and the sealants handle the edge gaps. Tested in accordance with UL standards, it can effectively block the spread of flames and smoke through the openings, protect the separated areas of the building, and maintain the integrity of the fire compartments.
III. Core Values of the Solution
(1) Prevent Fire Spread and Buy Rescue Time
Through targeted sealing of various key parts and using materials such as fireproof putty, fireproof boards, and flame-retardant sealants, the spread speed of flames and high temperatures is delayed, confining the fire to a local area. This buys sufficient time for personnel evacuation and fire rescue, reducing losses caused by fire spread.
(2) Ensure Structural Safety and Prevent Building Collapse
It reduces heat transfer to key load-bearing parts such as steel structures and concrete components of the building, ensuring that these parts maintain their load-bearing capacity in a fire. This prevents rapid structural instability and collapse, providing physical support for personnel escape and property protection.
(3) Reduce Smoke Hazards and Improve Evacuation Safety
It restricts the spread of toxic smoke through channels such as cable trays, shafts, and openings, purifying the air environment in evacuation routes. This reduces the risk of personnel casualties due to smoke inhalation and improves the success rate of evacuation and escape.
(4) Compliance and Risk Avoidance
Strictly following international standards such as UL and FM and national building fire protection codes, it ensures that the building meets the required fire resistance grade. It helps owners avoid legal liabilities, project rectifications, and other risks caused by non-compliant firestopping, ensuring the smooth delivery and long-term operational safety of the project.
