Scenario 2: Firestop for Cable Shaft Penetrations

Product Name: VC Firestop Composite Sheet + VM Multi-Configuration Firestop Block

Solution:
For vertical firestopping in residential cable shafts, lightweight and maintainable firestop systems are recommended. This solution integrates the VC firestop composite sheet (4mm ultra-thin) and VM multi-configuration firestop blocks, compliant with UL 1479 (ASTM E814) and referenced in C-AJ-8318/UL-Systems.pdf installation standards.

The VC composite sheet, featuring a steel-backed intumescent layer (per C-AJ-8318 Sec.4), forms a high-expansion char layer via multi-layer physical intumescence upon fire exposure, resisting 1850°F (1010°C) flames as specified in UL 1479's standard time-temperature curve (Table 4.1). It achieves F Rating - 2 Hr fire resistance and T Rating thermal insulation (≤325°F temperature rise), verified by hose stream test compliance (30 PSI, 1.5 sec/ft² per UL 1479 Sec.5).

Combined with VM blocks, the system ensures:

  • High structural integrity: Mechanically fastened with ≥1/4 in. diameter steel anchor screws and 1-1/4 in. fender washers, spaced ≤6 in. OC (C-AJ-8318 Sec.4.4)
  • Lightweight design: Density ≤150 pcf, matching lightweight concrete specifications in C-AJ-8318 Sec.1
  • 10:1 expansion ratio: Meets UL 1479 Sec.7.5 expansion factor test requirements
  • Maintenance accessibility: Modular design allows tool-free replacement, aligning with UL-Systems.pdf C-AJ series installation norms

This shaft-specific solution complies with annular space requirements (min 0 in. point contact to max 4 in. clearance, C-AJ-8318 Sec.2) and supports cable bundles up to 4 in. diameter, as detailed in W-J-8073_STI.pdf Sec.5.
